BigPond deletes customer Web pages

Telstra customers' problems are continuing, with many users now unable to access their personal Web pages.

After suffering weeks of e-mail trouble many customers who try to log onto their personal Web page are being greeted with the following message:

"You are not authorized to view this page
You might not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials you supplied."

A Telstra spokesperson told ZDNet Australia   the Web pages were "inadvertently deleted after a corrupted server was rebooted at around 9am today". The spokesperson confirmed there had been issues reported with some Web pages last night, which prompted the reboot.

"Virtually all the Web sites were deleted," said the spokesperson. "We're in the process of reinstalling them from a back-up that was completed over the weekend." The reinstallation process was commenced within an hour of the deletion, according to the spokesperson, but won't be finished until an estimated 7am on Thursday.

Customers of BigPond cable, ADSL, satellite and dial-up were deleted, and the cable customers are being reinstalled first "because of the network configuration".

The webspace was down before the 14th. This is yet again one of Telstra's lies.

I tried to log my disatisfaction via phone on Friday night but I guess their staff were too busy watching the rugby. I finally got through Sunday but I've heard nothing back.

I've today received one of several emails that were sent to me Friday. God only knows when the others will turn up (if at all).

I find it ironic that the copy of an email to Telstra making a written complaint that I cc'd to my Bigpond account hasn't turned up even though it reached another account.

It seems Telstra didn't think they didn't have enough irate customers so they chose to delete web pages ;-)

WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE AT TELSTRA?

My god , are they so profit driven now they flat out refuse to hire people and employ monkeys instead?

There may have been an isolated "incident" with deleting web pages today, but it's only the "tip of the iceberg" of telstra's service delivery problems.

There are many other areas of disfunctionality, including but not limited to telstra web site "screw-ups" like personal web pages, web email, authentication, usage meter web pages, etc...

Some people had their personal web sites disappear several weeks ago or were unable to FTP to them. I have been unable to FTP to my web site for weeks. I frequently get intermittent "500 server errors" when attempting to use telstra web email or the usage meter web site. These errors are not new - they have been intermittent for many months and have obviously NOT been addressed over this period of time.

Telstra's perennial response seems to be that they're "working on it".

Doesn't help though... In the mean time, I'm still expected to pay the full service charge, even though I'm only getting 80% of the service.

The FTP service was down, we were unable to update web sites, DNS connection problems, major sub-standard e-mail delivery and now this. This is serious non-performance and Telstra should compensate. If this does not constitute "Outage" I don't know what does?
Many utilities such as Aurora in Tasmania, Austar etc compensate by way of discount or in like manner.
What makes Telstra exclusive? If Telstra do not consider this a serious PR and Marketing issue,
I will go elsewhere and I expect many others will too.

The problem to access the web space started more than a week ago.
