Australian tech sector jobs decline

Australian IT employment opportunities have fallen again despite strong overall job growth, according to the Olivier Internet Job Index.

-The rises we saw last month in the tech sector just haven't sustained", Robert Olivier, director of Olivier Recruitment group, said in a statement. -Even a dead cat would bounce better than they did. The optimism that's been around about job growth hasn't been reflected by employers who are feeling burned by massive IT investments. The rest of the economy hasn't been able to drag it up."

The combined IT & Multimedia section, which saw an increase in February of almost 10 percent, experienced falls of 1.5 percent for IT and 8.3 percent for Multimedia. Of the 21 industries surveyed, only four others saw a fall in job advertisements. The largest increases were in Advertising and Media (27.4 percent) and Engineering and Mining (24.7 percent).
