Described as a "pre-paid recharge solutions provider", Ezipin is using Keycorp technology to enable consumers to recharge their mobile phones at corner stores and newsagents.
"Traditionally these terminals have been used by big banking and financial organisations to enable customers to pay bills, but in this case they are being used to issue vouchers with codes that can be used to recharge prepaid phone accounts," explained Andrew Parker, Keycorp key account manager.
While the Ezipin systems have yet to take over from Keycorp's traditional markets in the financial sector, Parker said it was one of the fastest growing areas of the company's business, with 2000 terminals already installed and orders of 300 per month already on the books for January and February.
"We are piloting the system in some other countries as well, and there is definitely a lot of potential in countries such as China, where a lot of the phone systems have gone directly to a pre-paid rather than a credit system," Parker said.
