Aussie innovators receive a boost

Months of nail-biting are finally over for 217 entrants to the Discover the Secrets of Australian IT Innovation, the winners announced by Richard Alston, Federal Minister for Communications and Information Technology.

Notified on Friday, the winners will get the chance to participate in the World Congress on IT (WCIT) and IT Business Forum to be held in Adelaide February 2002.

According to Noel Browne, project director for the IT Business Forum, 35 organisations have been chosen from a field that included e-commerce, security, wireless technologies, photonics, multimedia, smartcards, business and industrial software solutions.

The winning entrants will display their products and services in order to provide an estimated 1700 high-level decision makers from Australia and abroad with some insight into local innovation.

"Whereas the WCIT will provide visitors from throughout the world with insight into the cutting-edge IT and how it will lead to changes in the way we live our lives and consult business, the IT Business Forum will provide congress attendees with a chance to actually do a little business while they are in Adelaide," Browne said. "Australia is one of the world's most innovative countries and we have many world-class products and services, but not enough people know about us."

The winners of the competition hailed from every state and territory, with South Australia-based Your Amigo and New South Wales-based company, Idea Data, successful in two categories.
