Alston launches branding strategy for Aussie tech

A new branding strategy intended to attract investment dollars into the Australian information and communication technology industries was launched by Senator Richard Alston at CeBIT in Hannover yesterday.

"Technology Australia", a branding strategy flagged by the Minister at the beginning of the year, will be used to promote Australian technology on an event-specific basis.

The government spent AU$200,000 supporting 11 companies on the Technology Australia stand at CeBIT, helping to defray the costs of attending the conference.

"This is saying we've got specific strengths here in ICT," a spokesperson for the minister told ZDNet Australia, giving examples of e-security and photonics.

The initiative was developed when ICT was tagged along with biotechnology and nanotechnology by the National Investment Framework in December 2002.

    Delivering Yesterdays Technology Today

    We are a backwater in the worl ...K.Styles (A very,very disgruntled user) -- 13/03/03

We are a backwater in the worlds application of technology. T(H)elstra is a classic example of how not to do it. Broadband implimentation is a disaster. It's offline almost as much as it's online! Outages all over the country last night & this morning, for upgrades!! How many upgrades do they plan on doing, after 2 plus years of operation, before they finally get it working reliably? When you call Tech support, their stock answer seems to always be: "Its your PC" or "We haven't had any reported problems in your area". So what. How many complaints do they have to receive before they acknowledge there is a problem. As for mobile phones. We seem to be the last country in the world to have access to the latest handsets. Many features available overseas are not implimented in our handsets. HUMmppff. We aren't smarter. We put up with whatever the US wants to dump on us. I could go on. Wots the point. We have a dimwit Senator who doesn't have a clue!! It takes T(H)elstra years to get new technology operational. All the other telcos simply follow suit because T(H)elstra is a monopoly and sets the height of the bar.
