Alstom IT cuts Stream Communications out of Foxtel deal

Describing the details as an internal confidential operating matter, a spokesperson for Alstom IT has confirmed the company's move to terminate an outsourcing relationship with infrastructure providers Stream Communications.

In a cagey response, a spokesperson for Alstom Telecommunications Services, a division of Alstom IT, said that the cuts to the contract which saw Stream Communications provide residential connectivity as part of a larger deal Alstom held with Foxtel, were part of every day business and not a reflection on Stream Communications' performance.

-It is not something that is happening company wide, we are just making everyday choices about the way we operate," the spokesperson said in an attempt to reassure other third party service providers that their contractual arrangements with Alstom remained secure.

Stream Communications' managing director, Rod Barnabe, said the company was still working through the -ramifications" of the deal's termination, and could not comment on whether it would lead to any job losses.

-We were amongst the better performers on the Foxtel contract," Barnabe said. -So it was purely an operational decision made by Alstom."

Conceding that the termination had come as a blow, Barnabe went on to say that the company would attempt to reassign its resources to cover a range of residential installation services it provides to companies such as Optus.

-We are working with a number of different partners," Barnabe said.
