The ANZ Bank has appointed a veteran of senior technology and operations roles at Standard Chartered Bank in Asia, Mark Willis, as its new chief information officer.

ANZ's operations, technology and shared services (OTSS) managing director Michael Grime, -- to whom Willis will report -- said the new chief information officer would start on 28 February. Grime is himself ex-Standard Chartered.

New Zealander Willis' most recent position with Standard Chartered was chief information officer and head of operations, consumer bank, with responsibility for all operations and technology for Standard's consumer banking business globally.

Before that, he held responsibility for technology, strategy and development and business operations in his role as group head, technology and operations for the consumer bank.

Willis' career also includes a stint in Hong Kong managing Standard Chartered's information technology operations globally. His tasks included participating in due diligence and early integration work on the acquisition of Grindlays from ANZ in 2000.

Willis' role includes helping OTSS improve service delivery and lay foundations for future strategic directions
