Over the past couple of weeks, the AIIA has been having meetings with the Federal Government, discussing its agenda for IT policy.
Durie said this was all in the context of the most difficult environment the industry has been in for a decade. -I think it gives an urgency to some of the issues," Durie said.
In particular Durie points to investment in the Australian IT industry. -Essentially what we've seen over the last 12 months [is a] significant disinvestment by multinationals," he said.
-From my point-of-view, it means we need to work harder to create the right environment in Australia, particularly in employee share options...what we need to do is attract investment from multinationals and keep that investment here."
Durie said, from the discussions it had had so far with the government, its focus was very much on the commitments it had made during its election campaign. For the AIIA this will mean lobbying in issue areas such as industry development and procurement.
