ACS head calls it a day

Long-time Australian Computer Society chief executive Dennis Furini will retire from the professional association in May.

Furini has helmed the ACS since September 1999, when he joined the group as chief executive. He had enjoyed his stint at the organisation but it was time to give "a little more consideration to my family and myself", he said in a statement.

"I believe that I leave the organisation in a much stronger position as it was when I joined ... The Society is well served by a team of very competent and dedicated staff," he said. "Our members have access to a much improved and larger range of services."

An IT industry veteran, he spent 17 years at Philips and 10 years at Sydney Water, among other positions.

ACS president Philip Argy hailed Furini as "an industry legend", thanking him for his "tireless efforts" in supporting Australia's ICT professionals and addressing industry issues.

The ACS will spend the next three months looking for a CEO.
