ACCC plays hard to get with ASG on IT revamp

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) will be seeking a new supplier to provide all of its ICT services at the end of June, but the organisation has remained tight-lipped about its current arrangements.

The wide-reaching contract covers the provision of substantial ICT services ranging from basic desktop capabilities, database administration, server maintenance, security and network access.

As part of the service contract, the ACCC will also require an on-site support team for its Canberra offices, as well as national phone-based technical support.

The consumer watchdog held an industry briefing in December last year on the tender and issued documents stating that it wished to expand its IT capabilities and seeks "a more flexible instrument for the management of its ICT environment".

According to the tender, prospective providers will be given three weeks to examine the organisation's ICT infrastructure and existing technologies.

Systems integrator ASG -- the ACCC's current IT services provider -- said it intends to re-tender for the for the contract.

"As the current provider, ASG will be submitting a tender for the contract to provide IT services to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission and we're optimistic about the opportunity to continue our relationship with the ACCC," the CEO of ASG group said in a statement.

The consumer advocate declined to comment on its current arrangements with standing provider ASG, stating that "current service levels are not relevant to the RFT and are a commercial issue between the ACCC and the current service provider".
