Austrac kicks off CIO hunt

in brief Australia's anti-money laundering regulator and financial intelligence unit AUSTRAC has started looking for a new chief information officer, following the apparent departure of incumbent Martin French.

According to his AUSTRAC biography, which is no longer online, French had worked for the group since 1992, gradually rising through the ranks to become CIO in 2001. However, AUSTRAC today placed advertisements for his job, and a call to the group's switchboard revealed he was no longer listed.

AUSTRAC spokespeople were not immediately able to respond to a request for comment, but the CIO job description says the group's IT branch supports over 400 desktops and 3,000 users in 35 partner agencies who access AUSTRAC data. "In addition, over 11,000 reporting entities are enrolled to use AUSTRAC's online systems," it states.
