in brief Micro-blogging and social networking site Twitter has acquired Summize, a search engine commonly used to track Twitter conversations.

The news, reported by Techcrunch.com this week, follows rumors about the acquisition over the past few weeks.

Five of Summize's six employees will become Twitter employees, minus founder Jay Verdy, who will depart the company for "a new project."

Silicon Alley Insider put the value of the deal at around $15 million, with the transaction reportedly being mostly in stock.

Australia's tech startup and early technology adopter community heavily uses Twitter and Summize to network and communicate ideas about events such as the launch of the Apple iPhone.
