in brief Latest US figures have indicated that Google's search market share has grown even further, as the search giant continues to chip away at Yahoo and Microsoft. The latest figures from Hitwise, which monitors search market share, show Google with a record 66 percent share of Web searches in the US for the month of December 2007. Google had just over 63 percent for the same period a year ago, according to figures released on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Yahoo's share dropped from 21.6 percent to 20.9 percent, Microsoft's dropped from 9.8 percent to just over seven percent and Ask rose from 3.7 percent to just over four percent. Hitwise also found that people are increasingly using the major search engines to locate sites and information for key industry categories. For instance, travel, entertainment, business and finance, and sports categories showed double-digit increases in the share of traffic coming from search engines.
