Technology lawyer Philip Argy has been elected president of the Australian Computer Society (ACS) for the next two years, taking over the reigns from Edward Mandla.

A senior partner at law firm Mallesons Stephen Jaques, Argy has been involved with the ACS NSW branch for many years.

An experienced programmer, he is also national chairman of the Law Council of Australia's eCommerce Committee.

Argy will formally assume the role of ACS president from next year.

Along with Argy's appointment, the ACS Council also elected Dr Catherine Jaktman and Kumar Parakala as vice-presidents.
