Microsoft names international chief

The head of Microsoft operations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa has been promoted to president of international sales, services and marketing, the company said Monday in the US.

The appointment of Jean-Philippe Courtois, who has also become a senior vice president, comes after the software giant earlier this month resolved a key dispute with the European Commission in the antitrust case against the software giant. Courtois has been embroiled in that legal affair for the past couple of years.

In his new position as president of Microsoft International, Courtois' job includes overall responsibility for operations in his former region, the Asia-Pacific region and Latin America.

He will continue to report to Kevin Johnson, group vice president of worldwide sales, marketing and services.

Neil Holloway, former Microsoft vice president of sales, marketing and services for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, will assume the post being vacated by Courtois.

"The appointments of Jean-Philippe and Neil to these expanded roles will help increase our focus on both mature and emerging markets worldwide," Steve Ballmer, Microsoft chief executive, said in a statement.
