Digital Rights Management (DRM) provider Destra Corporation has signed music retail chain Leading Edge to provide music online through its Web site.

Leading Edge has over 200 stores across Australia and claims a market share of over 12 percent of all music sold in the Australian music market.

"We want to maintain our market share in the rapidly growing online music market. It represents an ever-increasing percentage of music sold in this country. Destra has the technology and expertise to help us maintain our lead," said Leading Edge CEO Gavin Ward.

Speaking for Destra, CEO Domenic Carosa also announced a 565 percent sales increase in April thanks to its 89c per track promotion. Carosa added that the figures prove that "the digital music market is alive and well."

Destra offered the 89c April promotion as a direct response to competitors in the market offering music at 99c.

"As we have said before, Destra will not be beaten on price. We were the first to launch a legal music service. We will maintain our market position as the number one digital music provider," Domenic added.

As of May 1, however, Destra's prices reverted to the usual A$1.99 per track.
