TPP tackles NZ, Melbourne IT

ASX-listed Destra Corporation has announced its domain name registrar, TPP Internet, will begin trading in New Zealand after becoming an accredited registrar.

TPP made the decision after initially looking into acquiring Domainz, the New Zealand incumbent, which was eventually snapped up by Melbourne IT for a AU$1.8 million. The company plans on selling value-added services such as hosting to domain name registrants. Destra wholly owns virtual hosting provider OzHosting.

Destra's founder and chief executive, Domenic Carosa, says it "makes sense" to not limit the company to just registering domain names. "We are seeing organic growth in the hosting market by linking domain name registrations to web hosting... Destra would expect good revenue flows from this," he said in a statement.

The company also announced it would push other arms of its business over to New Zealand, including its Web based service MusicPoint, which delivers new music to radio stations.

This follows the signing of a global agreement between Destra and Radio Computing Services in June this year. "We are expecting MusicPoint to generate millions of dollars internationally for us over the next three years. New Zealand is our first stop on the international roll out," Carosa said.

Active in the digital music space, Destra also owns music e-tailer mp3.com.au.
