Fresh indications that experimentation with Linux in the enterprise space is strengthening were released today.

Evans Data Corporation said its research indicated the number of enterprises that have dabbled with Linux in their server rooms had grown dramatically over the last year.

EDC's bi-annual survey of enterprise software developers in the U.S. found a 24 percent jump in the number of respondents employed by enterprises using Linux on corporate servers over the last 12 months.

However, while the number of enterprises running Linux in the server room appears to have increased, EDC figures indicated its depth of usage with enterprises has remained static over the same period.

The number of developers that reported that Linux was meeting more than 50 percent of theire organisations' server needs remains at a relatively low six percent.
