Music industry and universities back in court By James Pearce, ZDNet Australia March 24, 2003 URL: http://www.zdnet.com.au/news/business/soa/Music-industry-and-universities-back-in-court/0,139023166,120273109,00.htm
Music industry heavyweights and some of Australia's largest universities are back in court again tomorrow as the industry fights to secure evidence of alleged copyright infringement by users of the institutions' networks. Late last month Melbourne University agreed to preserve a copy of files on its network until a judgement was made in the nation's Federal Court as to whether the files should be handed over to the industry for investigation. However, Michael Speck, the managing director of Music Industry Piracy Investigations (MIPI), the company which investigates possible piracy on behalf of the industry, told ZDNet Australia the music companies were not sure whether Melbourne University had made a copy of files on its network or not. The longer it is left before a copy is made, the more potential evidence could be lost, according to Speck.
