IT vendor and managed services provider Hewlett Packard (HP) has managed to corner a six-year "multi-million dollar outsourcing contract" with diversified health and transport specialist the Mayne Group.

Appointed strategic IT provider, HP is set to implement a standard operating environment on desktops, consolidate the company's server infrastructure, implement an enterprise management toolset (OpenView) to maximise manageability of IT resources, undertake printer consolidation assessments and undertake availability assessments on mission critical systems.

According to HP's director of marketing strategies and alliances Philip Attard, sections within the companies worked together in their pre-merger days, and says the new deal has built on what were already positive experiences.

However, Attard said he was not able to reveal the value of the deal - describing the information as "critical to Mayne's operations".

He also outlined HP's aggressive growth strategy in the managed services arena, saying the company intended to grow its outsourcing business at twice the market rate.

"On a global basis our managed services operations generate revenues in the vicinity of US$15 billion, and services make up a very significant portion of what we do," Attard said. "It definitely has the potential to become the largest group within HP because it is a growth market and we have put a lot of focus on this part of the business."

Attard indicated HP's key focus was on the private sector, he expressed interest in building up the company's government portfolio, and said the HP managed services approach was ideally suited to the rapidly expanding mid tier marketplace.
