E-learning is becoming further entrenched in Australian universities, with Charles Sturt University beginning teaching trials with a new conferencing system in early 2003.

Students at the Dubbo campus will receive lectures and tuition from academic staff located at the Bathurst campus, 200 km away.

Charles Sturt University (CSU) has four campuses across central and southern NSW at Albury-Wodonga, Bathurst, Dubbo and Wagga Wagga. The new system incorporates camera and audio communications with computer files being shared in "real time" by users, and is expected to completely replace the existing video conferencing network by the end or 2003.

"The system will enrich our students' educational experience while increasing contact with top academic minds, no matter where they are in the University," said Professor Battersby, CSU's deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration). "It will greatly enhance teaching-learning flexibility between our campuses and our off campus students scattered throughout Australia and overseas."
