Downtime as new AusRegistry goes live

There is now little over a week to go until the new .com.au, .net.au, org.au and id.au registry goes live, and auDA is warning that there will be downtime while data is transferred to AusRegistry's database.

Earlier this month, the go live date for the AusRegistry was pushed back to early July. It was said to be a move to allow registrars to prepare their own systems for go live.

Go live is now set for July 1, which will mean that from noon on June 28 until 10 am July 1 no domain name applications, renewals, delegations, re-delegations and database updates for .com.au, .net.au, asn.au and id.au will be accepted, according to a statement from .au Domain Administration (auDA).

For .org.au the downtime will run from June 26 until July 1.

Jo Lim, chief policy officer at auDA, said this time was needed to ensure a seamless handover of the data to AusRegistry. Lim said a snapshot of the data would be taken after noon on the Friday, with the information then passed to AusRegistry to put into its database.

Following this, testing would be carried out, and the data would be compared to the original database to ensure it had all been transferred correctly, Lin said.
