The dot-info LandRush2 will soon be underway amid revelations almost a third of the registrations during the Sunrise Period were registered inappropriately.

The Sunrise Period was designed to allow holders of registered trademarks to reserve the corresponding dot-info domain names, and attracted over 52,000 registrations. It was subsequently discovered that over 17,000 of the registers did not own the relevant trademark.

-They did the best of a bad situation," Adrian Kanderis, managing director of sales and marketing for RegistrarsAsia told ZDNet Australia. -They did better than dot-biz, anyway. They went for an uncomplicated method but they forgot there are people out there who will bend the rules. They've done well to correct it now, they've righted a wrong."

The LandRush2 (LR2) will be held in a round-robin format on a first-in first-serve basis, that favours registrars who submit only one application for each domain name. -It's the same way dot-biz went the second time, and gives registrars an opportunity to tackle it the way they want to tackle it," said Kanderis. He noted that RegistrarsAsia will accept multiple applications.

-We've had quite a bit of interest from clients with big lists of names, mostly overseas clients," he said.

The names up for grabs this time around include: aussie, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane, sydneysuburbs and melgibson.
