Trials by Yahoo in the US to charge users US$1.99 per minute for phone support are unlikely to be implemented in Australia at this stage. Rachel Watt, senior producer for central services at online media company Yahoo Australia and New Zealand, confirmed that trials were underway in the US to charge customers who use its free e-mail service for phone support. -It's something we are trialing in the US because some users like talking to people rather using our online help section," Watt said. However, Watt argued that most would use its online section, which she said was monitored and updated frequently. Watt said there were no plans at this stage to introduce the service in Australia. -It's like anything--we benefit from testing Yahoo in the US do," she said. -The way we see it is it's offerng a service we don't offer at the moment." Representatives from Yahoo in the US said they were beta testing the service and would see if it made sense for its business and its users. Additional reporting by Troy Wolverton
