Internet job ads rise again

Australian Internet job ads have risen again, with 6,200 extra jobs advertised in February, according to the Olivier Internet Job Index.

This represents an increase of 11.9 percent, although the level is still 36.7 percent less than the number of jobs advertised in February 2001.

The combined information technology sector (IT&T plus multimedia) has increased by 9.9 percent, lagging behind the other industry sectors that saw an average gain of 15.4 percent in February.

-This will be welcome news for the IT sectors," said Robert Olivier, director of Olivier Recruitment Group. -Opportunities in software development and engineering dominate this sector, with management and sales jobs second. We saw hardware engineering systems jobs down over February, but there were significant gains in jobs in system administration and support."

-Recent surveys have shown the economy has been performing well everywhere but employment. This data shows employment is catching up," he commented.

The fastest increasing sectors were Building and Construction (36.7 percent), Arts and Entertainment (25.0 percent), Banking (23.0 percent), Multimedia Graphics and Internet (22.7 percent) and Sales
