Local recruitment portal Monster.com.au is howling over the success of its new ad campaign, but others disagree that the site has seen a huge surge in traffic. Monster claims to have seen a massive and unprecedented surge in traffic, with over 500,000 unique visitors and 10,000,000 page impressions recorded in the month of January. These figures are from Red Sheriff, a third-party Web site audience tracker. Monster has credited a combined TV and online campaign for the sudden increase in traffic. Web site performance analyst Jupiter Media Metrix confirmed that there had been close to 500,000 unique visitors to the site, but disagreed it was a "massive surge". -According to Media Metrix they've actually gone down since December, in terms of unique visitors," a company spokesperson said, adding -they haven't gone down by very much". The reports of a surge were also contradicted by Hitwise, which follows the online habits of 2.15 million Australians. Hitwise statistics show that Monster has been consistent in the daily, weekly and monthly figures for January. According to Hitwise, in the category of Business/Finance/Employment Monster has been consistently at number three. The number two spot is held by Australian Jobsearch, the governments search site, whilst Seek is sitting at number one. Hitwise did find that in the last three days Monster has gone from the 32nd most visited site overall to the 19th most visited site overall.
