Coles Myer has refused to outline how a massive firing spree will affect the company's online operation.

The company yesterday announced it would cut 1000 jobs in its head office and support group under a restructuring program orchestrated by newly appointed CEO John Fletcher that the company said would call its e.colesmyer operation into review.

But the company's media spokesman, Greg Price, said the company would not provide any details on what impact the restructure would have on e.colesmyer.

-There will be an announcement in the early part of 2002," he said. -There's nothing else to say about e.colesmyer."

Price pointed out that, although e.colesmyer would be examined in the review, that did not necessarily mean e.colesmyer jobs would be lost.

The review would extend across the company's entire General Merchandise and Apparel group, and would -reduce operating expenses, improve margins and enhance competitiveness", the company said in a statement.

-IT applications and systems... will be standardised to simplify business process and leverage cross brand opportunities," the company said.

The company said the review would eradicate -duplications" in supply chain management between its major retail franchises, which include Kmart, Target and Grace Bros.
