Net Nanny is growing up. The company that made its name selling Web site filtering software for families is now making a serious bid for enterprise security. Net Nanny, is in final testing of an enterprise version of its BioPassword LogOn biometric security application, a solution that analyses "keystroke dynamics" to validate a user's password as it is typed into a Windows NT workstation. BioPassword LogOn enables administrators to push out installation routines to users. New users signing on type in their name and password several times, the default being 15, to establish a typing "template" that will then be compared to future password inputs. BioPassword LogOn uses an algorithm that analyses factors such as speed and rhythm of a user's typing style. Users can set high or low thresholds of accuracy when comparing a password against the stored template. Officials emphasise that BioPassword LogOn is not an ironclad security solution, but merely an extra layer of protection against unauthorised use of workstations.
