Lucy Turnbull resigns Melbourne IT seat

Lucy Turnbull, wife of Shadow Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull has resigned her position as a non-executive director on the board of hosting provider Melbourne IT.

Lucy Turnbull joined the company in 2006 after Melbourne IT's acquisition of WebCentral.

Malcolm Turnbull defended his wife's position on the board last month after concerns were aired over a potential conflict of interest given his opposition of the National Broadband Network (NBN) roll-out.

The shadow minister told 2GB Radio, however, that he should be applauded for his position on the NBN, saying that he opposed the network despite Melbourne IT's potential benefit from the fibre network's construction.

In a release to the Australian Stock Exchange today, Melbourne IT said that Lucy Turnbull resigned due to the the "increasing pressure of her other various commitments".

ZDNet Australia contacted Melbourne IT for an extended comment regarding Lucy Turnbull's resignation, however there was still no response at the time of publication.
