Recruitment specialist Hudson today confirmed that its CIO Atul Thapar, who was only appointed last year, had decided to leave the company to pursue other opportunities.
Hudson had in July last year advertised for a newly created chief information officer role which it had said was going to be "transformational". Thapar, who had previously worked as the CIO for GE Healthcare, was selected for the role. Yet he only stayed in the position for a year.
According to a spokesperson for the company, it was healthcare that Thapar had in his sights when he decided to leave. Thapar wanted to continue his specialisation in healthcare and run a portfolio including Asia, they said.
The spokesperson confirmed that Thapar had, amongst other duties, been involved in a program to outsource some of Hudson's IT infrastructure to reduce costs.
ZDNet.com.au understands that some people in Hudson's Australian IT team were made redundant in the drive, which was said to be carried out in conjunction with Indian outsourcer HCL. But the company would not confirm the redundancies or that HCL had been involved.
"Hudson continues to invest in not only its core infrastructure and front office applications but also its IT team — crucial to ensuring the successful alignment of IT as a driver of business strategy and growth for the medium and long term," the spokesperson said.
Thapar had also "played a critical role" in the company's implementation of PeopleSoft, the spokesperson said. They did not say whether the company would look for another CIO.
