IT Jobs: Are you paid enough?

Colin Ho, ZDNet.com.au on February 2nd, 2010 (February 2nd, 2010)

Hudson ICT has released its annual salary guide with information on salary ranges across the IT industry from senior managers to graduate developers.

Hudson noticed a reduction in roles for analyst programmers with skills in C, C++ and Visual Basic, but strong demand for support roles like help desk and desktop related skills. There has been steady demand for business analysts, analyst programmers, infrastructure professionals and IT managers.

Over half (57 per cent) of companies surveyed felt that it would be difficult to employ and find the right talent in 2010 as skills shortages re-emerge.

Hudson also expected contract labour to increase, as the global financial crisis has made companies reluctant to hire permanent staff.

According to Hudson, ICT projects put on hold during 2009 have recommenced this year and created more IT jobs.

Widespread shortages in applicants with specialised skills in SharePoint, .NET, Oracle and Siebel consults, have created higher salaries for related jobs due to high demand.

Hudson anticipated that market confidence would result in a higher number of senior roles being available. ICT professionals with experience in finance will be in particularly high demand.

Overall, Hudson believed there would be a skills shortage in 2010 that would drive a steady growth in ICT salary levels.
