in brief Australian health software company iSoft has recently held a round of redundancies, despite outlining a vision late last year to increase its workforce.

ZDNet.com.au understands that the company laid off around 25 to 30 Australian workers in December, naming a restructure as the reason. There had also been rumours that a further round was planned. The company has declined to comment on the issue.

The workers were told to leave around the time that iSoft Australia and New Zealand managing director Denis Tebbutt said at an Australian Information Industry Association lunch that he had asked for a "significant amount" of investment for Australia, because he'd seen phenomenal levels of innovation in the country.

He expressed a wish to form centres of innovation for health care which could employ up to 500 Australian workers contingent on the e-health market being fostered by events outside the company's control, such as the National Broadband Network coming on line.
