iPrimus today announced its first fully operational customer had been connected to the National Broadband Network (NBN) in Midway Point, Tasmania.

A war of words had erupted this morning when Internode announced it had connected its first customer to the NBN. iPrimus chief executive officer Ravi Bhatia disputed that Internode was first.

"Internode may have connected its first customer but the first customer in Australia was connected by iPrimus," ARN quoted Bhatia as saying. "We did it yesterday or the day before."

iPrimus has since changed its tone in a media statement issued this afternoon, saying it had connected "the first fully operational iPrimus customer", with no mention whether it was the first customer connected Australia-wide.

The iPrimus Extreme 100Mbps service was installed "during the day" at the customer's premise, and a successful connection to the internet was made by the customer yesterday afternoon, iPrimus said in its statement.

"We have a PC, two laptops and a few gaming consoles, so having everything online at once and all working fast is critical to us," the iPrimus customer, named Mark, said in the statement.
