If installing to SSDs, swap space location is immaterial.
However, on a HDD, the further the swap space is from the apps, the more time penalty it imposes, considering that when it is used, it imposes delays anyway.
If a whole large partition is being used, it would be better to have swap near the start. If two, in the middle.

Unfortunately I had to fall back from Karmic Beta to Jaunty because of a bug that fixed access to the mass storage device in USB 3G dongles but dropped access to the serial device (modem). Hope they get it fixed in time for release
