Microsoft's web-focused REMIX conference kicked off at Star City in Sydney this morning. Attendees will be able to take in the latest and greatest of Microsoft's technologies, as well as learn tricks of the trade from their peers.

The venue for REMIX this year has many temptations: poker, blackjack, and going on tour for "the absolute absolute last time, again".

This is the opening screen for the Incute Keystone product that was launched during the keynote. Built for the construction industry, the product is developed on a complete Microsoft stack — hence the use of Windows Mobile and not Android or iPhone, although an API exists to allow others to build those interfaces, should they wish.

An application for Lonely Planet was also demonstrated during the keynote. By placing a book onto the Microsoft Surface, content (pictures and videos) can be dragged onto the passport-style card seen in the upper right and saved via the cloud for later viewing.

Another example of the Surface's ability to work with real-life objects. In this case it is showing further information on the owner of each business card. This occurs by the Surface recognising a code on the back of each card.

Naturally at a Microsoft conference, Windows 7 makes an appearance. At this booth attendees were able to participate in the Windows 7 install-fest.
