Web services security gets boost

International standards consortium OASIS has expanded to include security advocacy group PKI Forum, a move which is being touted as a key driver for the use of public-key infrastructure.

Security surrounding Web services has been one of the issues under discussion in the Web services debate, as enterprises look for robust security solutions to protect their companies.

The PKI Forum, which joined the Organisation for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS) today, is an advocacy group for the use of public-key infrastructure (PKI), such as digital certificates. It is also involved in other areas, such as multi-vendor testing of industry standards.

Patrick Gannon, OASIS president talked up the importance of PKI in a statement relating to the announcement. "Coordination and interoperability between the various security standards are key factors for the success of Web services," Gannon said.
