Certification for ANZ storage pros

IT professionals in Australia and New Zealand can look forward to globally-recognised qualifications aimed at validating their expertise in storage networking systems.

The Fibre Channel Storage Area Network (FC-SAN) Certification Program, awarded by the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA), comprises four levels--professional, practitioner, specialist and expert. This certification has been designed to assess skills and knowledge specifically in fibre channel-SAN technologies.

FC-SAN certification is the first track in the SNIA Storage Networking Certification Program (SNCP)--a vendor-independent course that provides a standard to gauge an IT professional's overall storage networking proficiency.

In Asia-Pacific, there are plans afoot to introduce Level 3 specialist certification by year-end, with education programs handled by Melbourne-based training firm Infinity I/O Asia-Pacific, said a spokesperson for SNIA's ANZ chapter.

SNIA is a San Francisco-headquartered, non-profit trade organisation comprising the who's who of the storage world including EMC, Brocade, Hitachi Data Systems, Veritas, Seagate and StorageTek. Non-storage vendors and individuals interested in promoting storage can also be a part of the group. The group recently established its ANZ arm aimed at promote storage networking and its associated technologies in both countries.

According to the spokesperson, the association will develop local marketing programs to bolster its cause, with roadshows and tutorials in the pipeline.
