IT consultants: The most stressed people? By Graham Hayday, silicon.com September 19, 2002 URL: http://www.zdnet.com.au/insight/soa/IT-consultants-The-most-stressed-people-/0,139023731,120268357,00.htm
Nearly three-quarters of senior IT consultants believe their jobs to be more stressful than air-traffic controllers or firefighters, according to research. Senior IT consultants believe they have the most stressful job in the UK, as they struggle to deal with system breakdowns and virus attacks. Seventy-one percent of these put-upon people reckon their working lives are extraordinarily stressful--a higher percentage than air-traffic controllers and even firefighters who (it could be argued) really do deal with some tricky situations. That's if some research from low-cost travel insurance provider Journeywise is to be believed. Police officers also score highly on the stress-o-meter. At the other end of the scale are activity specialists working in places such as hotels and nursing homes, and choreographers, who have a relatively stress-free and healthy lifestyle, as they practice their craft on a daily basis while focusing on a group endeavour. But the award for the least stressed group of professionals (and we use the word 'professional' advisedly) goes to journalists. Sadly, this means we can't take advantage of a 10 percent travel insurance discount being offered by Journeywise for het-up IT consultants who need a break.
