The Department for Immigration and Citizenship has said that it is reviewing the final release date for its System for People project because it coincided with the election.

"It would not be prudent for the department to implement these changes on the same day as a federal election," Department of Immigration and Citizenship spokesperson Sandy Logan said.

="" class="c-regularLink" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Computerworld reported the release would be delayed until after the election but, according to Logan, this might not be the case.

"It is incorrect to assert the release will be delayed; indeed, the release date could well be sooner than originally scheduled," Logan said.

The department would decide on a new date soon, he said, adding that the caretaker provisions would not affect the roll-out of the department's IT infrastructure.

The Systems for People project involves rebuilding and integrating a number of the department's information systems. The work calls for a series of portals to be built to provide staff access to centralised databases.

IBM won a $200 million contract to take part in the contract, but Unisys and CSC have also carried out work.
