Space Empires III is the sequel to Space Empires II, both of which were made by Malfador
Machinations. The game was designed for Windows 95 but seems to work on all other Windows
OS version. In the game you take on the role of Emperor of your own custom designed empire.
You must pick your race's racial traits, design your own ships, research new technologies,
maintain a good intelligence agency, and be a part of diplomacy throughout the galaxy. You can
either be a peaceful race that likes to try to make treaties with other empires, or a cold blooded
conqueror that is bent on galactic domination, or anything in between.
The game is not realtime, however. You take your turn, which involves telling your ships where
to move or who to attack, purchasing ships, facilities, and units, colonizing planets and proposing
treaties with other empires. When you end your turn, the next player or computer players take
their turns, then when they are done your turn starts again. This setup allows for up to ten human
players to play on one computer, which makes this game a great one for people with no network
abilities. You can also play an involving and difficult game against the computer as well.

well as many of the graphics, including the ship styles, are in bitmap form, meaning you can
easily edit them or make your own. The planet and star graphics aren’t bad for a 2-D game,
especially one that was made quite a few years ago. One thing that I was very impressed with
was that gameplay never became repetitive. Every game featured a new galaxy layout wi
