Ditching NBN like axing railroads: Gillard

This comment relating to history from the PM, about ditching the NBN, may be the most relevant one from her so far.

Now if she could just get the directly comparable message that Conboy's bloody stupid censorship is as pointless and self-defeating as was the US Prohibition experiment nearly 100 years ago. Back-of-the-envelope good ideas to placate the noisy moral minority always end in tears for those who fall for them, Julia.

Gillard compares fibre optics to a railway of a hundred years ago. What a joke. I do not see local people clamouring for the NBN, quite the opposite, only 20% want it even if it is free, so Gillard wants to force it on us and make us pay over $43 billion plus extra running costs of constant waste of electric power. Duuuh!

She'd be right about that if we could be sure that the NBN will deliver a worthwhile and open Internet. If what we get is a Christian coallition's idea of a safe media feed then we best axe it pronto. Ditching Censoroy would be best. How on earth is it that he is still on this (con)job? I can't believe that Rudd is gone, and Julia is accepting that Conjob stay. When will the pollsters (let alone Gillard) understand that so many young people are totally turned off the ALP by Censoroy. This is 2010; How can we be going to an election with most Internet Users thinking twice about voting for the ALP because of a 'Censorship' issue. It takes all the electoral goodness out of the NBN and the massive investment that they have 'spent' on it (and the internet filter). If it were me, I'd axe Conjob, axe the NBN, and immediately setup open, free wireless for every community that is prepared to make the effort to make (ubiquitous Internet) happen. Dosen't anyone know that next year it will be 2011?
