Our test measures actual data throughput between your computer and our distributed network of servers to give you an idea of how fast your broadband connection is in the real world. We calculate the speed of your Internet connection by calculating the time it takes to download a predefined set of data.
kbps or Kilo Bits Per Second is the rate at which 1000 bits of data travels across your internet connection. A bit is the smallest unit of digital information. 8 bits make up 1 byte.
The test shows the current throughput you can get on your Internet connection. Factors such as network congestion and other downloads in progress can affect the available throughput.
The results of the test can be affected by any network congestion between you and our servers. If you have other downloads in progress this can also affect the results.
We calculate the speed of your Internet connection by calculating the time it takes to download a predefined set of data.
ZDNet Australia's Broadband Speed Test measures the data throughput between a computer and a geographic distributed network of servers to calculate how fast broadband speeds are in the real world. The results are not an indication of the actual line speed between the user and the ISP. There are many external factors such as network congestion and routing between multiple networks that can affect individual results, which means the broadband speed test does not necessarily warrant 100% accuracy.
