Brisbane telco launches new datacentre

Brisbane telco, Over The Wire, today launched a new datacentre in Brisbane.

The datacentre cost "a little short of $1 million" the telco's chief Brent Paddon told ZDNet Australia and will be able to provide customers with conventional data services as well as voice services.

The company also stated that it envisaged "strong demand for the remaining racks" in the release. Half of the datacentre's co-location space has been snapped up by a Brisbane IT company, according to Paddon, but he wouldn't specify which company that was.

Paddon told ZDNet Australia that the datacentre was constructed and installed within six weeks of receiving its equipment.

APC kit, the cooling system behind iiNet's recently launched datacentre, will also be keeping Over the Wire's racks cool.

"We expect to see an improvement of 15 to 20 per cent in terms of cooling efficiency when compared to our first datacentre. Our Datacentre 2 clients have 15A/rack A + B as standard, and as the demand for space, particularly in Queensland, is very high, we are pleased to be able to offer such an economical and environmentally-friendly product," Paddon said in a statement.
