The ongoing saga of the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) has taken another turn with reports today that hackers instigated a denial of service attack on the Festival's website shopping cart.

Richard Moore, MIFF executive director, has responded by saying that MIFF has identified Australian perpetrators.

Is MIFF chasing shadows? Why is the Festival wanting to sue the hackers rather than have them criminally tried? All this and more discussed on today's episode of Patch Monday.

hackers and Aust Police susan keenan -- 21/08/09

maybe the Aust Police don't want to get involved with hackers, knowing who they are and how important they are to the community! I've tried and they wanted no part of me even with all the evidence I had on their big time hacker of many years. I understand why news and mags didnt want my story after they heard who it was.

    i disagree really. @dbph -- 01/09/09

i disagree really. It is possible to run small companies on secure services.

A linode hosted in the US is fairly cheap / other xen based vps hosters are too. If you are running lets say two linodes, in two different data centers storing data/backuping up data on the amazon s3 cloud the whole setup can be < $2000 a year for real peace of mind.

    of course @dbph -- 01/09/09 (in reply to #320256912)

of course real physical offline backups need to be made :)
