IT and business services provider Logica announced today that its Australian CEO Colin Holgate will take control of the company's affairs for the whole Asia Pacific region.

Appointed as CEO of Logica Australia in February 2004, Holgate will now be responsible for Logica staff and facilities across the region including India, Philippines and Malaysia.

Logica will not be appointing a new chief for its Australian business.

"At this stage, both the Australian and Asian businesses will be run under Colin Holgate," Logica spokesperson Daya Lichtenstein told ZDNet.com.au today.

The expansion of Holgate's region also signalled an expansion of the Australian team to service that region.

"Logica will increase its local team as required to meet the growing business opportunities in the Australian market," said Lichtenstein. She would not say how many people would be hired.

The IT services company has won contracts with the government sector including CrimTrac, National Health and Medical Research Council, and the Australian Communications and Media Authority.

Logica Australia has also taken part in the roll-out of smart meters in Victoria. However, the smart meters have been undergoing review after they were slammed by the Auditor-General in a report last year.
