Bendigo Bank cuts paper from its payroll

Bendigo Bank has moved to an online payroll system for its 3,400 staff around the country, which the institution expects to deliver "huge savings".

Employees view pay details online enabling Bendigo to cut the paperwork out of traditional payroll functions as it no longer has to send payslip advice to its staff in each state.

The regional bank -- its headquarters are in Bendigo, Victoria -- has installed the locally-developed Empower-HR payroll software to replace an old DOS-based system which it said was increasingly difficult and expensive to maintain.

"Empower-HR gives us huge savings because staff can now view their pay details electronically by logging on with Employee Self Service," said Bendigo Bank chief manager enterprise projects, Derek Waddington.

"Also, under our old system, forms such as timesheets, leave requests and sick forms had to be sent to head office in Bendigo. Now these can be done online."

The software fitted in with the bank's existing service orientated architecture, which was a big factor in Bendigo's purchase decision, according to Waddington.

The bank has not missed a pay since installing the new system, he said.
