Austrade seeks new CTO

Australia's Trade Commission Austrade has advertised for a chief technology officer to work out of Canberra.

The position, which reports to the chief information officer Brett Greenshields, will see the applicant help form Austrade's IT strategy to eke out the best IT performance for the money Austrade spends, while achieving mobility, collaboration and knowledge sharing.

Greenshields was once the chief technology officer himself until 2007 when he became the commission's acting CIO for six months before being appointed formally to the top technology position. According to a spokesperson for Austrade, the CTO position has not been empty since then, with someone acting in the position.

Austrade wanted the new CTO applicant to be a leader, schooled in the theory and application of SOA and web/cloud technologies. The applicant also needed to have an understanding of infrastructure, information systems and telecommunications so they could follow necessary trends and identify the limitations and applicability of the technology in Austrade.

University qualifications in ICT or business were desired. Candidates had to be Australian citizens and would be subject to a security assessment. Applications for the position have already closed.
