Atlassian was founded in 2002 by Sydney entrepreneurs Scott Farquhar and Mike Cannon-Brookes to create better software tools for software developers to work and collaborate. It exports to 134 countries.

NSW Premier Kristina Keneally congratulated the winners. "These companies demonstrate the ingenuity and hard work that has made NSW a leading export state and globally successful across a range of industries," she said.

Atlassian also took out the Information and Communications Technology award. Meanwhile, e-discovery specialist Nuix was awarded for innovation in export.

Atlassian has recently received some attention after attracting a US$60 million investment from a US-based venture capital firm.
