The company's chief executive and co-founder Mike Cannon-Brookes wrote on his blog yesterday that it was "searching the world for an absolute rock star".

"If you know anyone suitable — or maybe you're just an engineer whose boss is absolutely kick-ass but you want him to move so you can get his job, please send them a link," he wrote. "If you heard about the job on this blog and you send the right candidate, I'll personally mail you a case of Aussie beer anywhere in the world."

Atlassian is currently hiring broadly — it is advertising 32 software engineering jobs in Sydney on its site, and boasts that its company culture has "no bullshit and no bureaucracy".

The company has also created a video featuring co-founder Scott Farquhar talking about the benefits of the role and who they are looking for in a candidate.
