Android to hit Australia on 29 Jan

The first mobile phone running Google's Android operating system will hit Australia on 29 January, with a company called Kogan Technologies announcing the imminent release of an Android-based handset it calls the "Agora".

The phone can be ordered from Kogan's website, www.kogan.com.au, and will be shipped to Australian and international customers on 29 January 2009. The price to buy the handset outright has been set at $299, with a more featured version called the Agora Pro going for $399.

The features of the Agora include a full QWERTY keyboard with a central navigation key, a 2.5-inch touchscreen, microSD slot and 3G capability. The Pro adds a 2MP camera, Wi-Fi and GPS.

There has been no news yet as to when the other Android phone, the HTC Dream, will reach Australia.

Interesting

Is it me or does that key next to the central navigation key look strangley like a crackberry... err blackberry symbol.
Still it runs Android so I'll have a look.
The HTC G1 is available from some importers according to shopbot and staticice, but it ain't cheap, I actually saw one at Ruxcon... it was very cool

If only it would have WM6

Now that is very cheap. If Kogan would ship a phone with Windows Mobile 6.1, then I would be interested.

No 3G900 support

Their is no No 3G900 support.

Would have thought an Australian Phone maker making a phone that actually worked on all the Australian Networks

Not that I care anyway. Im just gonna get it on NextG prepaid and have my Iphone as my Personal phone for Personal Calls, Emails, SMS and have a Kogan for my business emails
